Who writes this,
and how.
Decisio.be explains Belgian administrative and financial decisions: buying or renting, employee or self-employed, which grants, which taxes. Here is the method, and its limits.
- The site is free, with no sign-up and no advertising.
- No financial product is sold or recommended: no banking partnership, no affiliate link.
- Every figure comes from a named official source, listed on the Sources page.
- Every page carries a date and the income year of the scale used.
- This is not personalised legal, tax or financial advice.
Why this site exists
In Belgium, the same question does not have the same answer depending on the region you live in, the status you work under, and the year you ask. Registration duties range from 2% to 12.5%. Energy grants change name, counter and conditions from one region to the next. Tax scales are re-indexed every year.
The information exists: it is published by the FPS Finance, INASTI, INAMI, the regions and the notariat. It is simply scattered, written for administrations, and rarely placed side by side for comparison. Decisio.be does that gathering and comparing, and nothing else.
How a page is built
1. Official sources first
For every topic, the primary source is consulted first: the competent administration, the regional text, the public body. Media and secondary sites serve only to clarify or to spot a change. When two sources contradict each other, the official one decides. The full list is public on the Sources page.
2. No figure without a source
This is the site's strictest rule, and the most demanding one. When no official source gives a precise amount, the page describes the mechanism and points to the official simulator, rather than putting forward an unverifiable number. Market orders of magnitude, where they appear, are labelled as such.
3. One set of tax scales for the whole site
The amounts that change every year — tax brackets, exempt allowance, ceilings — live in a single place and are read by the articles and the calculators alike. A corrected value is corrected everywhere at once. That is what stops two pages from stating two different figures for the same rule.
The scale currently in use is the official 2025 income scale (2026 tax return), checked on 2026-09-06. While the amounts for a new income year have not been published by the FPS Finance, the site keeps showing the latest official scale and says so, rather than inventing an indexation.
4. Calculators state their assumptions
Each tool shows the method it applies and what it does not cover. A net salary calculation, for instance, deliberately ignores municipal surcharges, which range from 0% to 9% depending on the municipality. A result without its assumptions is not a result.
What Decisio is not
The information is general and does not account for your particular situation. For a deed, a tax return or a commitment, the right person remains a notary, an accountant, a legal adviser, your health insurance fund or the relevant administration. The pages point you to them at the moment it matters.
- Not a commercial comparison site. No bank, insurer or energy supplier pays to appear here, and no link is an affiliate link.
- Not a news site. The pages are maintained guides, not bulletins.
- Not a personalised service. The quizzes steer you towards the right pages based on a few answers; they are not a diagnosis.
Corrections
An error on this site is a serious problem, not a detail. If a figure looks wrong, out of date or poorly sourced to you, report it: it is the most useful feedback we can get.
Write to info@decisio.be or use the contact form, choosing the subject Correction. Giving the page address and the figure in question is enough. Substantive corrections are applied across all languages at once, as a priority.
Languages and regions
The site exists in English, French and Dutch. These are not three translations of one regional text: the rules genuinely differ between Brussels, Wallonia and Flanders, and each regional page carries the amounts and counters of its own region. Where information is federal, it is identified as such.
Who writes
For now this page describes the method, not the people. A presentation of the site's publisher is in preparation; in the meantime, any question about where a piece of information comes from is answered at info@decisio.be.
