Energy grants in Flanders 2026: Mijn VerbouwPremie after reform

On 1 March 2026, Flanders deeply reformed Mijn VerbouwPremie. Categories 1 and 2 (mid-to-high income) can now only request the heat pump grant. Categories 3 and 4 retain full access. Compensation: Mijn Verbouwlening expanded to €60,000, plus combinable Fluvius grants.

The 1 March 2026 reform

Flanders implemented a major Mijn VerbouwPremie reform on 1 March 2026. The system retains its 4 income categories, but access to grants is heavily restricted for the higher categories.

Category Access before reform Access after 1 March 2026
Category 1 (high incomes) ✅ Full ⚠️ HP grant only
Category 2 (mid-to-high incomes) ✅ Full ⚠️ HP grant only
Category 3 (modest middle incomes) ✅ Full ✅ Full
Category 4 (low incomes) ✅ Full ✅ Full
⚠️ Concrete impact

If you fall into category 1 or 2 and you plan insulation, frames or condensing boiler: no more Flemish grant for these works. Only the heat pump remains subsidized. For those in categories 3 or 4, the system remains fully active. For comparison with the other regions, see Brussels and Wallonia.

The heat pump: the central 2026 grant

The Flemish heat pump grant remains accessible to all 4 categories and is the year's main investment incentive. Flanders set caps to limit exclusively applicable use for high incomes.

Heat pump type Cat 1-2 (after reform) Cat 3-4
Air-water €1,500 €4,000 (cat 3) / €6,000 (cat 4)
Geothermal €1,500 €5,000 (cat 3) / €8,000 (cat 4)
Air-water hybrid €800 €1,800 (cat 3) / €2,700 (cat 4)
Thermodynamic water heater €400 €800 (cat 3) / €1,200 (cat 4)
✅ Combination with federal 6% VAT

On top of the Flemish grant, the federal 6% VAT remains applicable to heat pump installation, even in new homes from 2026. Add the federal 30% deduction (on roof insulation) and possibly a Fluvius grant, and the total support becomes substantial.

The full system for categories 3 and 4

For middle and low incomes (categories 3 and 4), Mijn VerbouwPremie remains fully accessible. Main subsidizable works:

🧱
Roof insulation Up to €8/m² (cat 3) or €12/m² (cat 4). Combinable with federal 30% deduction.

Flemish pitfalls in 2026

⚠️
Planning works without knowing your category If you're in cat 1 or 2 and plan major insulation, anticipate: only the HP grant remains accessible. Reconsider the type of work to maximize levers. To situate the project within the broader housing journey, see our hub on buying or renting in Belgium.
⚠️
Forgetting Fluvius grants Often forgotten because separate from Mijn VerbouwPremie. Systematically check the Fluvius site after your project. If you're saving in parallel for the purchase itself, see saving for a property purchase.
⚠️
Exceeding the 12-month application deadline Strict: past the deadline, no grant possible. Plan your administrative work in time.
